hügelkultur mound
effort: a weekend
bury wood, plant the hill: a raised bed that waters and feeds itself for years.
mound logs and brash, cap them with inverted turf and soil, and plant the slopes. as the wood decays it holds water like a sponge, releases nutrients slowly, and warms the bed from within — turning waste wood into a decade of fertility with no irrigation on all but the driest sites.
