coppice cycle

effort: several years

the cut that doesn't kill: harvest wood forever from the same stools.

cut broadleaf species to the ground in winter and they regrow multi-stemmed, faster than any sapling. divide the coppice into panels cut in rotation — a seven-year cycle yields poles, stakes, and mulch annually while the mosaic of regrowth stages hosts more life than untouched woodland.
